I read Stephen King’s outstanding “On Writing” in a single sitting a couple of weeks ago, a truly excellent tool for those learning (do you ever not learn?) the craft.
Part auto biography part instructional missive, it set out the process of how to write in a way that I, at least, found very simple to understand.
I have, however, just broken one of his cardinal rules. After breaking through the 70k word count barrier yesterday, although still nowhere near finished, I read through the entire “book” and was distraught to find more plot holes than plot.
I read his book and was convinced I was destined for overnight success and greatness. Seems that it’s not going to be quite so simple.
