Archduke Ferdinand.

After having built the water feature:

I waited excitedly for some sort of life. Slowly but surely the water started to contain a few insects and then, after well over a year, I started to hear a “plop” from time to time as I passed. Clearly something jumping in to hide from me.

It’s now been been a few weeks and I’ve finally seen him. Archduke Ferdinand the Frog, or Fred as he’s known amongst friends. I’m led to believe there was another Archduke Ferdinand somewhere back in history but I’m sure they’re not related.

He’s great, sits there sunbathing, keeping cool under the droplets of the fountains and allows me to approach to within about 3/4 feet before he jumps into the water.

Hope he stays around for a while, I’ve got used to him chilling about the place.

  1. Handsome critter, isn’t he? Are you sure he’s not a prince in need of a snog?

Super handsome. And certainly an epic name for an amphibian. I can’t wait until July, when all the baby frogs come out again for summer. 🙂
