I’m home for a while, the Laydee of the house is in work, thus ’tis up to me to provide the evening sustenance.
I can cook, I actually enjoy cooking, my problem is that when I look in a fridge/freezer/cupboard I never ever find inspiration. If she gives me a definitive thing to make I’ve got no problems, but when she just heads off and I have to think of something it rarely turns out well.
Today though, I looked in the fridge, saw a lump of minced beef and a few bits and bobs and the above title hit me. Not only spicy, but reasonably healthy too (I think).
Minced beef (a chunk of beef, sliced from a joint and minced by the butcher)
Finely chopped onion. Half a fiery red hot red chilli, finely chopped.
Finely chopped leek. Half a jar of “Not Just Jams” red hot relish. www.notjustjams.co.uk (She’s a friend, but her produce really is fantastic).
Finely chopped green pepper. Special meatball spice purchased in the spice market in Istanbul.
Freshly ground pepper. One egg (collected from the coop this morning).
Everything mixed together gave me eight good sized meatballs. Three each for dinner tonight, and one each for lunch tomorrow.
The oven was pre-heated to 175 and they cooked for about half an hour. (In all honesty, I just kept looking till they appeared to be done). Eaten with mashed sweet potato and home grown green beans, they were flipping spicy, but flipping lovely.
Forgot to take a pic when it was nicely presented, ooops.
