14th July 2013 I was stood approximately 150 yards down from the 6km to go banner on the side of the mythical Mont Ventoux, watching Chris Froome ride past me on his way to winning the stage and Le Tour that year.
It was the realisation of a dream for me, long a fan of La Grande Boucle, I’d never seen it live until that year, and then twice in 5 days, Le Ventoux being the second.
But it was more than that, it was the start of a painful journey, hopefully ending in pleasure when I ride my bike up The Beast of Provence with one or two friends, and have my photo taken next to “that” sign, like so many millions of cyclists before me.
If I can work out how to do it, this part of the blog will be that journey, starting from today, 09 April 2014, a 15 stone heifer, and ending towards the end of July, at the top of the hill, hopefully a stone lighter and with an incredible sense of achievement.
To be continued …….
